Sarah
Stanga, 15, is an American living in
Shanghai
with her family,
and anyone meeting her for the first time would probably think of her as a
typical teen. She goes to school, hangs
out with her friends and plays a mean game of tennis. But is she really a typical teen? You be the judge.
Although just 15, Sarah proudly says that
her passion in life is to be a writer, she knows just what she wants to study
in college, has a quiet but steely determination to persevere, and shows the
courage to ask for help as she moves forcefully forward in life. Are these the attributes of a typical
teen? These are the attributes all teens
would like to have, should have, or might have, but for Sarah, it’s something she already has!
I had the pleasure of coaching Sarah during
the April Teen Power Camp, and I found her an absolute pleasure to be
with. Sarah will become an accomplished
writer soon, and as a special treat for all of us, has allowed me to publish
one of her poems.
Enjoy it!

DECISIONS
by Sarah Stanga
Two Colours to pick,
Three roads to walk.
Clocks that tick,
and clouds that flock.
Hearts that beat,
and hearts that stop.
New baby's feet,
and old summer's crop.
Winter comes,
and winter goes.
Threatening bombs,
and new true woes.
Decisions have been made,
New lives have been changed.
Some
may fade,
and
others framed.
The decision has been made,
Nothing
can change,
It'll
never fade,
and
it'll always hang.
